Sant Antoni – Raval
Public space, place of coexistence
Speaking up for public space is an integral part of Mediterranean culture. In the centre of Barcelona, this becomes clear in projects such as the large cultural facilities in the Raval district or the newly refurbished modernist market in the adjacent Sant Antoni neighbourhood.
With the implementation of pedestrian friendly Superblocks and the recovery of block interiors as gardens for public use, green areas are gaining ground in the urban fabric.
“Let’s fill the streets with life.“ – Join us as we walk the vibrant streetscape of the Raval and Sant Antoni area, a bold test bed for social experimentation and innovation
The Barcelona Superblock Program is part of an ongoing process to expand car-free spaces in the city and renature entire neighborhoods in response to the rapidly changing social, environmental and economic realities.
This tour focuses on the city’s notion as inhabited space, with diverse and vital urban spaces as an essential ingredient, by examining its construction, use and phenomena of citizen appropriation.
